Rules of Evidence


The Pennsylvania Rules of Evidence were adopted by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1998. The Rules govern proceedings in all courts of the Commonwealth's unified judicial system except as otherwise provided by law. The Rules may be accessed at:

The Federal Rules of Evidence were adopted by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1979 and govern the introduction of evidence in civil and criminal proceedings in federal court. While they do not apply in state court proceedings, the rules of many states closely model them. The Federal Rules may be found at:
